TRACEY Hurst summed it up perfectly.

\”After he won the Million Dollar Chase, everyone said we should retire him to stud,\” she said. \”But Frank is a greyhound trainer first. Then to go on and win the Group 1 justified our decision.\”

Tracey was talking about the Hurst family ‘legend’ Good Odds Harada (Collision-Solar Pak by Mogambo).

He\’d won the Million Dollar Chase in October 2019 to give Frank and Tracey and their family the greatest of thrills.

But, their decision to keep him racing and then win the Group 1 Dapto Megastar come early December vindicated their ideals of keeping their dog racing.

\”We\’d won Group 1s before,\” said Frank. \”But Dapto is our home track, just an hour away from here, and if you don\’t want to win Group 1s, then you shouldn\’t be in dogs.\”

Good Odds Harada kept racing right up to October this year when the Hursts pulled the plug and sent him off to stud.

\”But, the Dapto Club has asked us to parade him before the final of this year\’s Megastar and that\’s what we will do,\” said Frank.

However, Frank also signalled he and Tracey ‘might’ even contemplate bringing Good Odds Harada out of retirement to chase a series of Masters events after he turns four in April next year.

\”He\’s still only young by racing\’s standards,\” he said. \”And, he\’s only $60,000 off becoming the highest stakes earner of all time.

\”Remember, the Masters Meteor is worth $100,000 to the winner next October.\”

Frank and Tracey admits Good Odds Harada has been a ‘once in a lifetime’ dog.

\”We were not going to die wondering what might have been after the Million Dollar Chase, so we kept him in work and he won the Megastar,\” he said.

Frank says semen collection and racing with Good Odds Harada had been difficult.

\”We never advertised him before, but this time we have and the response has been very good,\” he said.

Last year\’s Megastar saw Good Odds Harada sweep to a four length victory over Sparkle Motion and Jimmy Casey.

\”It doesn\’t matter what he does after this, he\’s forever in our hearts,\” said Frank.

Good Odds Harada went to stud back in October with the remarkable record of 75 starts for 31 wins and 29 placings earning $1.3 million.
