TEN YEARS AGO – OCTOBER 2010:

Lochinvar Marlow for Bob Smith wins the Group 1 Paws of Thunder at Wentworth Park by eight lengths in 29.90. In a star-studded field Cosmic Planet finished second and third home was Cosmic Chief.

El Grand Senor for Carolyn Jones wins the Group 1 Top Gun at the Meadows. It was a four lengths win over Enry Walt with Snoz in third place.

Late Show Lee trained by Neil Thompson wins the Group 2 Gold Coast Cup over 520m at Albion Park. Earlier that year the dog suffered a broken hock.

TWENTY YEARS AGO – OCTOBER 2000:

Dave’s Mentor, a son of Head Honcho, for David Hobby wins the Group 1 Silver Chief at the Meadows.

Go Wild Teddy for Mark Bell wins the Group 1 Vic Peters at Wentworth Park, en route to victory the following month in the Melbourne Cup.

Serious Girl for Sue Madden wins the gr 2 City of Ipswich Gold Cup for a $15,000 winner’s cheque. Fin’s Flyer and Pepper Pot filled the placings.

THIRTY YEARS AGO – OCTOBER 1990:

Rocket to Tubrid, a very tiny bitch often referred to as the ‘pocket rocket’, wins the Group 2 Sydney Cup over 720m for Greg Wynne. The favourite Farrarami ran seventh.

It seemed fitting that Whisky Bale for Troy Provost won the Coca-Cola Cup over 558m at Brisbane’s Gabba track. Scotch and Coke, get it? The $2.75 favourite Brutess ran last.

Capalaba staged the Straight Track Classic won by Rusty Ole Reno, a son of Pretty Fearless, trained by Sid Norris. New Account and Pretty Tardy filled the placings. Three months later the Ron Spence trained Pretty Tardy won the National Derby final at Wentworth Park.
