Strong first season for Sennachie

\"\"Each month Chase will highlight the story behind Queensland’s most recent complete monthly breeding statistics:

February, 2021

By David Brasch

VICTORIAN studmaster Steve White is beaming with confidence about the future of his champion race dog Sennachie who has just completed his first season at stud.

The son of Fernando Bale-Rhonda Rocks has mated 88 bitches in the first 10 months since his retirement.

White has checked out the stats of champion sires, Fernando Bale and Barcia Bale, and found Sennachie\’s popularity compares equally with both in their first season after retirement.

\”I checked the stats through Greyhounds Australasia and found Fernando Bale had mated 89 bitches in his first year at stud, and Barcia Bale 88 matings in his first season,\” said Steve.

\”For Sennachie to mate as many bitches as that pair shows just what broodbitch owners think of our dog.

\”This has been a great achievement.\”

White said breeders are raving about the quality of Sennachie\’s first pups especially their size, but just as importantly their nature.

Sennachie retired after a race career of 32 starts for 18 wins and earned $701,450.

He is the Albion Park track record holder at 29.38 and ran the three fastest times ever at the track.

He won the G1 Maturity, G1 Brisbane Cup, G1 Gold Bullion, G2 Qld Derby (Alb Pk 29.53), G3 Golden Ticket, Launching Pad Consolation, and was second in the G1 Silver Chief, G2 Speed Star 515m, third in the G1 Adelaide Cup and a finalist in the G1 Topgun (fell heavily at the first turn) and the G3 Flying Amy Classic.

Queensland whelping statistics for February include some high class race bitches, headed of course by the 2019 greyhound of the year Dam Slippery.

The daughter of Dyna Double One – Go Mini Mouse, has produced four dogs and one bitch by US sprint star and Irish/Aussie siring great Kinloch Brae.

Sennachie is represented on the list by a litter of one dog and four bitches from former top class staying bitch Eleazar (Bit Chili-Cool Poss). The dam was a finalist in the G1 Albion Park Gold Cup, G2 Wenty Gold Cup, G2 Richmond Oaks and twice in the Winter Chase.

Timely is the litter by Barcia Bale-Restless Emotion of three dogs and three bitches. The daughter of Kinloch Brae-Anja was part-owned by rugby league legend Tommy Raudonikis, who died during April after a long bout with health problems.

An extremely interesting litter is Fernando Bale-Crazy Bonnie. The dam, by Kinloch Brae-Iona Champion, was an Albion Park winner and litter sister to Group 1 finalist Emmerville Star. But, putting Crazy Bonny to Fernando Bale makes the six dogs and four bitches from the litter almost full relations to 2020 Qld GOTY Oh Mickey (Fernando Bale-Iona Champion).

Just Spiffing (Fear Zafonic-True To You) was a tough and classy race bitch and she has produced a litter of five bitches to Mepunga Blazer. It is a VERY interesting mating that brings in a duplication and balance of the great Premier Fantasy, and a double of Hallucinate.
