Teacher Is Waiting For His Champion
By DAVID BRASCH
BRADLEY Sabotic is a NSW school teacher who lives for greyhound racing.
Based at Greta not far from Cessnock, Bradley has dabbled in breeding for a few years now and is still hoping for a champion to come along.
Bradley has bred a superstar, the Barcia Bale-Keira’s Charm dog Bago Bye Bye, but sold him as a pup to Wauchope dog man Greg Watts, selling the dogs for less than $2000 each.
He has kept a bitch from the litter and plans to breed with her.
When Bradley decided on Barcia Bale for Keira’s Charm (Surgeon-Tranquil Heidi by Token Prince) he was not only recreating the pedigree of a multiple Group 1 winner and Queensland greyhound of the year, but he was developing a dog with a great intensity of bloodlines.
It produced Bago Bye Bye who has started 44 times for 23 wins and seven placings earning $262,000 in stakes.
He is a multiple Group 1 winner of the Albion Park Gold Cup and NZ Cup and a track record breaker at Addington. He has also been in the Group 1 Australian Cup, Sandown Cup and Topgun Stayers for Darren Russell.
Barcia Bale certainly did upgrade Keira’s Charm.
She had started 56 times for eight wins and 18 placings her wins coming at Warragul, Tamworth, Muswellbrook and Mudgee.
Bradley always thought she would get distance and her litters to date have all produced a number of stayers.
The Barcia Bale mating produced nine named offspring and eight have been winners. Oxley Rebel (11 wins, $31,000), Yunderup Tank (14 wins, $77,000), Yunderup Star (8 wins, $22,000) and Yunderup Kayda (5 wins, $19,000) have all shown ability.
So, what did make Bago Bye Bye and his littermates become class acts?
Let’s look firstly at their sire Barcia Bale (Go Wild Teddy-Princess Bale). The G1 Maturity winner and Bulli TR breaker, Barcia Bale’s dam princess Bale is bred 2×2 on that wonderful cross of Elusive Rebel and Lansley Bale, who are virtual sister and brother such is the similarity of their pedigrees.
But, there is also a strong link between Go Wild Teddy and Elusive Rebel. They both trace along their direct damline to the foundation bitch Classy Val.
AND, Go Wild Teddy and Princess Bale are both bred on the cross of the famous half brothers Acacia Park and Brother Fox.
So, we see that Barcia Bale is indeed an intensely in-bred greyhound. No wonder he would become the first really great stud dog produced by the Wheeler family after 60 years of trying.
Next, we look at Keira’s Charm.
Her mother Tranquil Heidi (Token Prince-Tranquil Touch) is from a family with which Park Ridge breeder/trainer Greg Stella has had great success. Tranquil Heidi is in-bred 2×3 to the virtual sisters True Temptation and Flying Amy. This is the cross found in Greg Cannon’s champ Buckingham Chuck.
She is also in-bred to Amerigo Man and his litter brother Walkabout Sid.
Putting Tranquil Heidi to G1 Melbourne Cup winner Surgeon brought in a 3×2 cross of Fool’s Fun and Tranquil Touch, both of them bred on the Credibility/Acacia Ablaze cross.
But, Surgeon also carries a cross of Walkabout Sid in his sireline. Again, both Surgeon and Tranquil Heidi (sire and dam of Keira’s Charm) are bred on the cross of the famous half brothers Acacia Park and Brother Fox … exactly the same as Barcia Bale.
When Bradley Sabotic put Keira’s Charm to Barcia Bale he was already champion sire.
Bago Bye Bye and his littermates were whelped in February, 2016.
Fast Times (Barcia Bale-Clockwise by Magic Sprite) was whelped in 2015 so he would not have hit the racetrack by then. When he did, he was very, very special breaking a track record at Lismore as a pup, and then going on to multiple Group 1 fame and greyhound of the year honours.
Fast Times’ dam Clockwise just happens to have Surgeon as her damsire. Thus, Fast Times is bred along very similar lines to Bago Bye Bye.
The Barcia Bale-Keira’s Charm mating brought in some very strong lines.
Go Wild Teddy and Tranquil Heidi came into the pedigree 3×3 at the top and bottom of the mating. They too are virtual brother and sister. Both carry Walkabout Sid (balanced), Malawi’s Prince (balanced) and Acacia Park (balanced).
Bradley Sabotic did a marvellous job combining the pair.
Through the middle of Bago Bye Bye’s pedigree is a duplication and balance of New Tears.
A simple glance at the pedigree of multiple Group 1 winner and TR breaker Bago Bye Bye shows the closest line breeding to be a 4×4 double of Malawi’s Prince.
But, some judicious analysis of those ancestors further back in the pedigree instantly produces an intensity of pedigree worthy of Group 1 class.
Keira’s Charm was a winner at Warragul, Tamworth, Musswellbrook and Mudgee. When her bloodlines were upgraded using a champion stud dog with multiple similar matches to her own lines, it reached Group 1 status.
Bradley has since contacted Pedigrees By Design in regards to a mating with a litter sister to Bago Bye Bye.
Magic Sprite, who already has a wonderful, wonderful “nick” with Barcia Bale (found in Fast Times’ pedigree) is a natural. Now, all we have to do is convince Bradley.
